A man goes 15 metres due west and then 8 metres due north. How far is he from the starting point?

Here is your answer:-

He travelled 15km towards West.
Then,8km towards north.

Now,
Distance from his initial position to his final position is "A to C"

By Pythagorean theorem,we will find Distance from A to C.

 =  >  {(ac)}^{2}  =  {(ab)}^{2}  +  {(bc)}^{2}  \\  =  >  {(ac)}^{2}  =  {(15)}^{2}  +  {(8)}^{2}  \\  =  >  {(ac)}^{2}  = 225 + 64 \\  =  >  {(ac)}^{2}  = 289
 =  >  {(ac)}^{2}  =  \sqrt{289}  \\  =  > ac = 17m
Therefore,
He is 17m far from his starting point.
