A man goes 3km East from point A and takes right turn from point B to move 4km to point C. What is the minimum distance b\w A&C

Since, the path taken by the man is in right angle triangle as shown in the attached image. The shortest distance between point 'A' and point 'C' is the 'HYPOTENUSE' itself.

Therefore, by the Pythagoras theorem

Hypotenuse^2 = Side_1^2+Side_2^2

from the given data,

Side_1 = 3Km\\Side_2 = 4Km

let, Hypotenuse = x

Now,  

x^2 = 3^2+4^2\\x^2 = 9+16\\x^2 = 25\\x = 5Km

∴The shortest distance between 'A' & 'C' is 5Km
