How far is he from the starting point?​

Let the east direction to be i and north direction be j .

thus the displacement of the man S = 8i +6j

so the magnitude of |s| =

 \sqrt{ {6}^{2} +  {8}^{2}  }  =  \sqrt{100}  = 10m
