Given,

Increase percentage = 10%

New salary = ₹55000

Let the previous salary be ₹x.

New salary = Previous salary + Increase in salary

55000 = x + increase in salary

Increase in salary = 55000 - x

percentage \: increase =  \frac{increase \: in \: salary}{original \: salary}  \times 100 \\ 10 = \frac{55000 - x}{x}  \times 100 \\ 10x = (55000 - x) \times 10 \\  \frac{10x}{100}  = 55000 - x \\  \frac{x}{10}  + x = 55000 \\  \frac{11x}{10}  = 55000 \\ x =  \frac{55000 \times 10}{11}  \\ x = 5000 \times 10 \\ x = 50000
