The “total amount” (in rupees) received by the ‘3 sons’ together is Rs.8400

Solution:

Given: A man has “2 daughters, 3 sons and a wife”. They divided a ‘sum of Rs.19000 among themselves’ such that his ‘wife received 600 less than’ each son and each daughter got ‘1.5 times the amount’ received by each ‘son.

Let us assume that amount received by 3 sons as x, then amount received by 2 daughters will be ‘1.5 times’ the amount ‘received by each son’ i.e., 1.5x and amount received by wife is ‘600 less than’ each son i.e. x - 600.

x + x + x + 1.5x + 1.5x + x - 600 = 19000

3x + 3x + x - 600 = 19000

7x - 600 = 19000

7x = 19600

x = 2800

Amount received by three sons = 3x = (2800) = Rs.8400.
