Answer:

If the number of heads is 70 and the number of legs is 200, then the number of buffalos is 30.

Explanation:

Given that,
Total number of heads = 70
Total number of legs = 200

Let us assume that the total number of ducks and buffalos is x and y respectively.

A duck has two legs and a buffalo will have 4 legs on the ground.

∵ the total number of heads is 70
According to the question,
x + y = 70............(I)

Again, since a duck has two legs, each head of a duck is equivalent to 2 legs.
Similarly, each head of the buffalo will be equivalent to 4 legs.
∵ The total number of legs is 200,
According to the question,
2x + 4y = 200.........(II)

⇒ 4y = 200 - 2x
y = \frac{200 - 2x}{4}

Substituting the value of y in equation (I), we get;
x + y = 70
x + \frac{200 -2x}{4} = 70
\frac{4x + 200 - 2x}{4} = 70
2x+200 = 280
2x = 80
⇒ x = 40
∴ The number of ducks is 40.

∴ The number of buffalos = 70 - 40 = 30 [From eq. (I), we get]
