. He starts to go to airport on his motorbike. Plane comes early and the mail
is sent by a horse-cart. The man meets the cart in the middle after half an hour. He takes the mail and
returns back, by doing so, he saves twenty minutes. How early did the plane arrive?

Solution :-

Let us assume that,

• the man started at 1:00 .

given that, The man meets the cart in the middle after half an hour.

So, at 1:30 he meets cart.

as, he meets in middle , the man would take same time to reach back .

So, at 2:00 he returned back at home.

• In 1 hour he completed his journey .

now, given that, by doing this and he saved 20 min.

therefore, we can conclude that,

• The actual time if the plane is not late is 1 hour and 20 min.
• 1 hour + 20 min = 80 min.
• The man reaches home at 2 : 20 in this case.

then,

• Time taken by man in to reach airport = (80/2) = 40 min. = 1 : 40 .

therefore, the actual time of plane is 1 : 40.

then,

• The cart travelled a time of = 1:40 - 1:30 = 10 min.

since, the cart travelled a time of 10 min. before it meets the man . Hence, we can conclude that, the plane is 10 min. early.
