Step-by-step explanation:

let total amount with man be x

amount given to elder son = 35% of x

= 35/100 × x

= 35x/100

remaining amount

= x - 35x/100

= 100x - 35x / 100

= 65x /100

amount given to younger son = 40% of 65x/100

= 40/100 × 65x/100

= 2/5 × 65x/100

= 130x/500

amount left with him = 23400

 \frac{35x}{100} + \frac{130x}{500} + 23400 = x \\ \frac{175x + 130x}{500} + 23400 = x \\ \frac{305x}{500} + 23400 = x \\ x - \frac{305x}{500} = 23400 \\ \frac{500x - 305x}{500} = 23400 \\ \frac{195x}{500} = 23400 \\ 195x = 23400 \times 500 \\ x = \frac{23400 \times 500}{195} \\ x = 120 \times 500 \\ x = 60000

elder son share = 35/100 × 60000 = 35 × 600 = Rs. 21000

younger son share = 40% of (60000 - 21000)

= 40/100 × 39000

= 40 × 390

= Rs. 15600

21000 + 15600 + 23400 = 60000

total amount with him originally = Rs. 60,000
