Total distance = X km 

Total fare = Rs. Y 

According to given condition, 

First km = Rs. 10 

Therefore remaining distance after 1st km would be (X-1)km. 

Fare for remaining distance is Rs.7/km 

Hence cost would be 

7 × (X-1) Rs. 

Total cost= 10+ 7×(X-1) 

Y = 10 + 7X-7 

Y=3+7X 

Linear equation -- 7X-Y+3=0

Total distance travelled is 16 km 

therefore x=16 km 

putting the value of X in above equation we get, 

7 (16)-Y+3=0 

112+3=Y 

Y = 115

So, correct amount for covering 16 km = Rs 115.

So,amount paid back by the auto driver 

= 200−115 = Rs 85
