A man holds a 2 kg book between his palms so that each hand exerts the same horizontal force on the book. The coefficient of static friction between the palms and the book is 0.4 and g = 10 ms-2. If the book is prevented from falling, the least force exerted by each hand on the book is

(A) 50 N

(B) 25 N

(C) 75 N

Answer:

25N

Explanation:

man is using both palms and the body is not falling. so there is friction in upward direction.

there are 2 frictions acting in upward direction as there are 2 hands involved.each friction is equal to mew N (uN)

so sum of two frictions is equal at weight.

uN + uN = mg

2 x uN = mg

2 x 4/10 x N. = 20

N = 25N

here N becomes force applied by each hand as force applied by one hand is balanced by its respective normal..
