The data given in the question is not sufficient to solve the problem.

We need to know the upwards velocity of the balloon at the moment the stone is thrown out which is not given. So one needs to assume this value.

So under the circumstances the answer worked out by Rishav Himanshu, which assumes that the velocity of the balloon when the stone is thrown out is zero, is correct.

shivanshi99: It's a question in one of the exams, can't mark it as not sufficient data over there !
shivanshi99: Btw, the answer is given as 35 m/s
Rishav02: The answer would be 19 cm / sec in downward direction
 Solution will be as follows:
Velocity of a / b = 5 cm / sec Relative acceleration = 0i - ( g + 2 )
Relative velocity after 2 sec final = v ( r ) - a ( r ) t
= 5 - 12 * 2
= - 19 m / sec

It's a question related to relative velociy. We know that stone will have acceleration (g) and balloon is moving with 5m/s2
