A MAN IS 26 YEARS OLDER THAN HIS SON. HE IS ALSO 8 YEARS OLD THAN THREE TIMES HIS SON'S AGE. FIND THE SON'S AGE.

Let the age of the Son be ‘x’ years and the age of the father be ‘y’ years.

Now, consider the 1st case:

the man is 26 years older than his son, means, the age of the man is x+26=y…(1)

Now, consider the 2nd case:

the man is 8 years older than 3 times his son’s age is nothing but, 3x+8=y…(2)

Now we have got 2 variables, and 2 equations as well, so this makes it really easy to solve the problem.

x+26=3x+8

=> 26–8=3x-x

=> 18=2x

=> x=9

Hence, the age of the son is 9 years and that of his father is 9+26=35 years (equation 1).

Solution:

Let say Son age  = S  Years

Man in 26 year older than his son

=> Man' age  = S + 26   Years

Man is also 8 Years old than 3 times his son's age

=< Man's age = 3S + 8

Equating Man's age

=> 3S + 8 =S + 26

=> 2S  = 18

=> S = 9
