Given that,

A man is 4 times as old as his son.

Let the present age of his son be x .

Therfore his present age = 4x

ATQ,

After 16 years, the man will be twice his son.

➡ 4x + 16 = 2(x + 16)

➡ 4x + 16 = 2x + 32

➡ 4x - 2x = 32 - 16

➡ 2x = 16

➡ x = 16/2

➡ x = 8 years

Hence,

  • present age of his son = x = 8 years

  • present age of the man = 4x = 4 × 8 = 32 years

LET US ASSUME A MAN'S SON AGE AS X.

THEN,IT'S GIVEN THAT HE IS FOUR TIMES AS OLD AS HIS SON SO MAN'S AGE IS 4X.

NOW,

AFTER 16 YEARS AGES WILL BE

SON'S AGE:-2(X+16)

FATHER'S AGE :- 4X+16

A/Q,

2X+32=4X+16

2X=16

X=16/2

X=8.

SO,THE PRESENT AGE OF HIS SON IS 8 YEARS AND HIS AGE IS 32 YEARS.
