The present age of the son is 8 years, and the present age of his father is 32 years.

• Let the present age of the son be x years.

=> The present age of his father = 4x years - (i)

• Age of the son after 16 years will be x + 16.

Age of the father after 16 years will be 4x + 16

• According to the question,

Age of father after 16 years = 2 ( x + 16 )

Therefore,

2 ( x + 16 ) = 4x + 16

Or, 2x + 32 = 4x + 16

Or, 32 - 16 = 4x - 2x

Or, 16 = 2x

Or, 2x = 16

Or, x = 16 / 2

Or, x = 8

∴   The present age of son is 8 years.

• Putting x = 8 in equation (i), we get,

The present age of father = 4 × 8 = 32 years
