then by the question age of father is x+40


now the sum of ages of father and son is 82


so .... x +x+40=82

.........x=42 ÷2 (× becomes ÷ when it crosses = sign)


......x=21years




father =x +40

so 21+40
=61 years



father's age is 61 years and sons age is 21 years
