Age of father = 42
Age of son = 12
Let the years needed be 'x'
ATQ
(42+x) = 6(12+x)
42 + x = 72 + 6x
42 - 72 = 6x - x
-30 = 5x
x = -30/5 = -6
So his father's age was six times of his son's age 6 years ago.

42-x=6(12-x)
42-x=72-6x
-x+6x=72-42
5x=30
X=6
If the fathers age was 36 and the sons age was 6years that's is 6years ago
