And his father's age be (×+4)

After 16 years.

His son's age =2 (×)=16

or, 2x=16

x=16 /2=8 years.

His father's age =(x*4)

Answer:-

Son age = 8 years

Parent age = 32 years

Solution :-

Let the age of his parent be x years and the son be y years.

Case :- 1

A man is 4 times old as his son.

 x = 4y -------eq. 1

Case :- 2

After 16 years.

The age of man after 16 years will be = ( x + 16 )

Son age after 16 years will be =

Son age after 16 years will be = ( y + 16 )

The man age will be twice old as his son.

 ( x + 16) = 2 ( y + 16 )

 x + 16 = 2y + 32

 x - 2y = 32 -16

 x -2y = 16 -----eq. 2

Put the value of x in eq. 2

 x = 4y

 x -2y = 16

 4y -2y = 16

 2y = 16

 y = \dfrac{16}{2}

 y = 8

Now , put the value of y in eq. 1

→x = 4y

→x = 4 × 8

→x = 32

hence, the age of son will be 8 years and his parent will be 32 years.
