A man is four times old as his son. 20 years hence, he will be twice as old as his son. Find their present ages.

Let the age of man be 4x and the age of the son be x.
ATQ,
4x+20=2(x+20)
4x+20=2x+40
2x=20
x=10.
So,their present ages are-
(Man's age) 4x=4×10=40 years.
(son's age) x=10 years.

Answer 2

Let the present age of son be x
Then the present age of man be 4x
After 20 years
Age of son be x+20
Age of man be 4x +20
According to question
=> 2(x+20)=4x+20
=>2x +40=4x +20
=>2x=20
=>x =10
Then
4x=10×4=40

Hence the present age of son =10 years.
And the age of man = 40 years.
