A man is reading a map with a scale that says 1:50. That means for every 1em on the map, the distance is actually 50km. What will be the ACTUAL distance between two towns that are 5cm apart on the map?

5cm on a map represents =5×4000000=20,000,000‬cm

1km=1000m

1m=100cm

∴1km=1000×100=100000cm

∴100000cm=1km

∴20,000,000‬cm=

100000

20,000,000‬

km=200km

Thus, the actual distance between two towns is 200km.
