A man is the owner of a winery who recently passed away. In his will, he left 21 barrels (seven of which are filled with wine, seven of which are half full, and seven of which are empty) to his three sons. However, the wine and barrels must be split, so that each son has the same number of full barrels, the same number of half-full barrels, and the same number of empty barrels. Note that there are no measuring devices handy. How can the barrels and wine be evenly divided?

Given : A man is the owner of a winery who recently passed away . he left 21 barrels (seven of which are filled with wine, seven of which are half full, and seven of which are empty) to his three sons.

To find :  how to split he wine and barrels  so that each son has the same number of full barrels, the same number of half-full barrels, and the same number of empty barrels

Solution:

7 full

7 half

7 Empty

total Available = 7 * 1 + 7/2  + 7 * 0   =  21/2

Each one will get  = (21/2)/3 = 7/2

7/2 can be achieved using

3 full   &  1 half    &  3 empty

=> we need in total 9 full  , 3 Half  , 9 empty

we will use 4 Half  to fill 2 empty

then half will reduced to 7 - 4 = 3

empty will be 7 - 2 + 4  =  9

Full will be = 7 + 2 = 9

So using 4 Half , we will fill two empties

to share 3 Full , 1 Half & 3 Empty with each son
