A man is three times as old as her daughter. Six years ago, the sum of their ages was 36. find the age of the daughter.

Let the age of the daughter be x years. Then the age of the man will be 3x.

Six years ago, the sum of their ages was 36. So, (x-6) + (3x-6)= 36

Solve this linear equation to get the value of x!
