• Let the present age of son be x

• Then present age of father be 3x

After 12 years :-

Age of son = x + 12

• Age of father = 3x + 12

After 12 years father will be twice as old as his son.

According to question

2(x + 12) = 3x + 12

 = > 2x + 24 = 3x + 12

 = > 3x - 2x = 24 - 12

 = > x = 12

 = > 3x = 12 \times 3 = 36

Hence, the present ages of son and father are 12 and 36 years respectively.
