Let the present age of son be 'X' .

The present age of father = 2X

Twelve years ago , the age of son = (X - 12)

Twelve years ago , the age of father = (2X - 12)

and according to question fathers age was thrice ,

⇒ (2x-12) = 3 (X - 12)

⇒ 3X - 36 = 2X -12

⇒ 3x - 2x = 36 - 12

⇒ X = 24

So the present age of Son = 24 yrs

the present age father = 48 yrs .
