The velocity of rain relative to the man will be 8.718 km/hr

Explanation:

Correct statement:

A man is walking due west at the rate of 4 km/h and the rain is falling at an angle of 30∘  east of vertical with a velocity of 6 km /h. The velocity of the rain relative to the man will be

Solution:

r = rain,

g = ground

m =man

Let, the resultant  v -> rm  makes an angle of α with east of vertical.

we have v ->rm  =  v-> rg +  v-> mg

  • Horizontal component:

v-> rm  sinα = 6 sin(30°)  +4=7 .........(1)

  • Vertical component:

v ->rm cosα =6 cos(30°)    =3  3  .........(2)

Adding equations  (1)&(2) we get

v->rm  =  √49+27 = 8.718 km/hr

Thus the velocity of rain relative to the man will be 8.718 km/hr
