Question

A man leaves 1/2 of his property to his wife, 1/3 to his son and the remaining to his daughter. If the daughter's share is Rs.15,000. How much money did the man leave ? How much money did his wife get ? What is his son's share ?

Given

  • A man leaves his property to his wife. 1/3 to his son and the remaning to his daughter.
  • The daughter's share is Rs.15000.

Required to Find

  • How much money did the man leave ?
  • How much money did his wife get?
  • What is his son's share?

Solution

Let the total money of thean be Rs. x

 \large \sf \: money \: got \: by \: wife \:  = rs. \dfrac{x}{2}

 \sf \large \: money \: got \: by \: son \:  = rs. \frac{x}{3}

Money got by daughter = Rs. 15,000

 \\ \sf \large \: x -  (\dfrac{x}{2}  +  \dfrac{x}{3}) = 15000

 \\ \sf \large \implies  \dfrac{6x - 3x - 2x}{6}  = 15000

 \\ \sf \large \dfrac{x}{6}  = 15000

x = 90,000

Therefore , total money that man leaves is Rs. 90,000.

 \\ \sf \large \: now \: share \: of \: wife \: rs. \dfrac{x}{2}  = Rs. \dfrac{90000}{2}  = Rs. \: 45000

 \\ \sf \large \: and \: share \: of \: son \:  = Rs. \dfrac{x}{3}  = Rs. \dfrac{90000}{3}  = rs.30000
