A man left 5/12of his property for his wife 4/9for his son and the rest divided equally between his 2 brothers. What fraction of his property did his brothers receive?

Let the total property of the man be 1.

Let each of his brothers recieve x part of the property.

Therefore,

5/12 + 4/9 + 2x = 1

=> (15+16)/36 + 2x = 1

=> 31/36 + 2x = 1

=> 2x = 1 - 31/36

=> 2x = (36-31)/36

=> 2x = 5/36

=> x = 5/72

Hence, each of his brothers recieved 5/72 parts of his property.
