Solution :

\bf{\green{\underline{\bf{Given\::}}}}

A man may buy a motor car for Rs.17000 when a single discount of 15% is allowed. If two successive discounts of 10% and 5% are allowed.

\bf{\green{\underline{\bf{To\:find\::}}}}

The bill he have to pay.

\bf{\green{\underline{\bf{Explanation\::}}}}

Let the Marked price be Rs. r

We have Selling price of motor car Rs.17000

Formula use :

\bf{\boxed{\bf{S.P.=M.P.\bigg(1-\frac{Dicount\%}{100} \bigg)}}}}

A/q

\longrightarrow\sf{17000=r\bigg(1-\dfrac{15}{100} \bigg)}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{17000=r\bigg(\dfrac{100-15}{100} \bigg)}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{17000=r\times \dfrac{85}{100} }\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{17000\times 100=85r}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{1700000=85r}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{r=\cancel{\dfrac{1700000}{85} }}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{\red{r=Rs.20000}}

&

New S.P. getting if two successive discount of 10% and 5% :

\longrightarrow\sf{95\% \:of\:90\%\:of\:20000}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{\dfrac{95}{\cancel{100}} \times \dfrac{90}{\cancel{100}} \times 2\cancel{0000}}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{Rs.(95\times 90\times 2)}\\\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{\red{Rs.17100}}

He payed Rs.17100 .

QUESTION :

a man may buy a motor car for Rs.17000 when a single discount of 15 percent is allowed.how much mill he have to pay for it if two successive discounts of 10 percent and 5 percent are allowed.

SOLUTION

Let the cost of the motor car be Rs. X

C1 : 15% discount is allowed.

Therefore :

85% of X = 17000

=> X = 20000

Now Two successive discounts given :

10% + 5 %

=> 95 % of 90 % of 17000

=> 14535

Hence in the second case he will have to pay RS. 14535.
