Step-by-step explanation:

a man mixes 10 litres of alcohol and 40 litres of water

so mixture made by him = 50 litres

he sold one fourth of it

so mixture sold by him = 1÷4*50

= 12.5 litres

the proportion of alcohol is to water is 1:4

he then adds alcohol to replenish the amount of mixture

means he added 12.5 litres of alcohol

therefore new amount of alcohol = 10 litres +12.5 litres

= 22.5 litres

and the new amount of water = 50.00-22.5 litres

= 27.5 litres

therefore new proportion of alcohol is to water is

22.5 ÷27.5= 9:11

So the new proportion of alcohol is to water is 9:11
