A man moves to go 50 m due south, 40 m due west and 20 m due north to reach his field(a) What distance does he have walk to reach the field ?(b) What is his displacement from his house to the field?​

Total Distance = AB + BC + CD

Total Distance = 50m + 40m + 20m = 110m

AE = AB - BE = 50m - 20m = 30m                                  [BE = CD]

DE = CB = 40 m

Now, In Triangle ADE,

Base^{2} + Height^{2}  = Hypotenuse^{2}

40^{2} +30^{2} = AD^{2} \\1600 + 900 = AD^{2} \\AD^{2} =2500 m\\AD = \sqrt{2500} \\AD = 50m                                              

Therefore,

Displacement = 50m
