Question:-

A man moving with 5m/s observer rain falling vertically at the rate of 10m/s . find the speed and direction of the rain with respect to ground ?

Answer:-

V_{r,m} =  -10jms^{-1}

V_m = 5ims^{-1}

V_r,m = V_r - V_m

V_r = V_r,m + V_m

V_r = (-10j) + ( 5i )ms^{-1}

| V_r | = 5\sqrt{5} ms^{-1}

therefore:

tan\theta = \frac{1}{2}

\theta = tan^{-1} \frac{1}{2}
