Question :-

A man of 50 kg is standing at one end on a boat of length 25m and mass 200kg. If he starts running and when he reaches the other end.,he has velocity 2m/s with respect to the boat. The final velocity of the boat is..?

Answer :-

→ Final velocity of boat = -0.04 m/s

To find :-

Find the final velocity of boat .

Step - by - step explanation:-

Solution :-

Given that ,

and let,

  • Mass of men (m ) = 50 kg

  • Mass of boat ( M) = 200 kg

  • Velocity of men after reaching the other hand (v) = 2 m/s
  • Final velocity (u) = ?

Since , initially men and boat is at rest.

Therefore the initial momentum of the system ( both men and boat )(P)= 0

And again let, Final momentum of the system is Q.

_____________________________

Now using conservation of momentum ,

→ P = Q

→ 0 = mv + (m+ M) u

→0 = 50× 2 + (50 + 200) u

→0 = 100 + 250 u

→ 250 u = -100

→ u = -100/250

→ u = - 0.04 m/s

Therefore ,the final velocity of boat is - 0.04 m/s.
