a man of mass 70 kg stands on a weighing scale in a lift which is moving (a)upwards with a uniform speed of 10 metre per second (b)downwards with the uniform acceleration of 5 metre per second square case ? what would be the reading if the lift mechanism failed and it hurtled down freely under Gravity?

Explanation:

1) uniform speed means weight= mg

let g= 10

W = 70×10

=700 N

2) upwards with acceleration means weight = m(g+ a)

= 70(10 +5)

= 70× 15

= 1050 N

3) downwards with acceleration means weight= m(g-a)

= 700(10-5)

= 700× 2

=1400N
