Newton came up with three laws of motion.
The first law states that a body continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless an external force is applied on it.
This law tells us that every material body has a property by virtue of which it resists the change in its state of rest or in in its state of motion. This property is called Inertia. So the man standing on the bus moves forward with the bus' motion apparently due to the motion of the bus. This is due to inertia of motion. Similar examples can be cited upon situations like when we hit  a dusty carpet dusts appear around or in a moving train if a boy throws up a ball it will land on his hand.
