total journey =(4/7)+(5/21)+8
={(4×2+5×7)/7×2}+ 8
={(8+35)/14}+8
=42/14+8

let the total distance be x,
then, 4x/7+5x/21+8=x
=4x/7+5x/21-x=-8
=12x/21+5x/21-21x/21=-8
=-4x/21=-8
=4x=8*21
=x=168/4
so x=42km
