Explanation:

Given A man produces 2 litre of gastric juice per day which contain 1.825 g hcl per litre. Number of antacids tablets each contains 580 mg mg(oh) should  taken by that person to neutralize all the hcl produced in one day A) 2 B) 4 C) 5 D) 8

  • We have the equation
  • 2Hcl + Mg(OH)2  MgCl2 + 2H2O
  • In the stomach we have 1.825 gm hcl per litre. Now a person produces 2 litre gastric juice per day.
  • So hcl produced will be 2 x 1.825 = 3.65 gm
  • In the above equation we have hcl of 2 moles and to neutralize it we need 1 mole of mg(oh)2.
  •      2 x hcl (mass)
  •      2 x (1 + 35.5)
  •       2 x 36.5g
  • Also mass of Mg (Oh)2
  •                        24 + 2(16 + 1)
  •                        24 + 34
  •                           58 g
  • Now if we have 2 (36.5 )g we need to have 58 g of Mg (oh)2
  •               So for 2 (1.825) g   we get  58 / 2 (36.5) x 2 (1.825)
  •                                                           = 211.7 / 73
  •       = 2.9 g
  • Now we have 2.9 x 1000 = 2900
  • So Number of tablets will be 2900 / 580 = 5
