Let the number of eggs purchased be x.

Given: C.P of 3 eggs= Rs 5

⇒C.P of x eggs= Rs

5/3x

and S.P of 5 eggs= Rs 12.

so, S.P of x eggs = Rs

12/5x

Profit = S.P - C.P

⇒143 = 12x/5-5/3x

⇒143 = 36x-25x/15 = 11/15x

⇒143×15/11 = 195

Therefore the man purchased 195 eggs.

assume total eggs X
cost price = (X/3)*5
selling price= (X/5)*12
cp-sp= 143
solve above equation we get X=195
