A man rows a boat along a stream and covers a distance of 8 km in one hour. He requires 1 hour and 45 minutes for the return journey. What is the speed of the current of the stream?

Answer:

Speed of boat = x .

Speed of the stream = y.

x+y = 8

x-y = 2

2x = 10 or x = speed of the boat is 5 km/h.

5+y =8

Y= 3 km/h.

The speed of the stream is 3 km/h.
