Let the son's present age be x.

Son = x

Man = 3x

-

10 years ago:

Son = x - 10

Man = 3x - 10

-

10 years ago, the man is 5 times his son's age:

3x - 10 = 5(x - 10)

-

Solve x:

3x - 10 = 5(x - 10)

3x - 10 = 5x - 50

5x - 3x = 50 - 10

2x = 40

x = 20

-

Find their present age:

Son = x = 20

Man = 3x = 3 (20) = 60

-

Answer: Man = 60 years old, Son = 20 years old

Let the age of Son be X years .

The age of Man = 3X

✴Ages 10 years ago ,

5 ( X- 10 ). = (3X - 10 )

5X - 50 = 3X - 10

2X = 40

X = 20

⏪age of Son = 20 years
