A man's age is three times his son's age. ten years ago he was five times his son's age. find their present ages.

Solution :-

Let the man's age be 3 × y and son's age be y repectively .

⇒According to the given question :-
      
              
⇒Before ten year's , their ages were :-

              3x - 10 = 5 ( x - 10 )

              3x - 10 = 5x - 50

              50 - 10 = 5 x - 3x 

              40 = 2 x

               \frac{40}{2} = x

               20 = x

⇒ Man's age is  3 × y = 3 × 20 = 60 yrs

⇒ Son's age is  y   = 20 yrs
