A man's age is three times his son's age. Ten years ago he was five times his son's age. What is their present age?

let the present age of the son be x

present age of the man is 3x

3x - 10 = 5(x - 10)

3x -10 = 5x - 50

-10 + 50 = 5x - 3x

2x = 40

x = 20

age of the man is 60 and age of son is 20
