Solution :

At present :

Son age = x years

Man's age = 3x years

10 years ago :

Son age = ( x - 10 ) years

Man's age = ( 3x - 10 ) years

According to the problem given ,

3x - 10 = 5( x - 10 )

=> 3x - 10 = 5x - 50

=> 3x - 5x = -50 + 10

=> -2x = -40

=> x = ( -40 )/( -2 )

=> x = 20

Therefore ,

At present :

Son age = x = 20 years

Man's age = 3x = 3 × 20 = 60 years
