Given  : A man sees the bottom and top of a building at a depression of 50° and 35° respectively from the top of a 40m high tower.

[tan 50°=1.1918,tan 35°=0.7002]

To Find : a) Draw a rough figure using the given data.

b)Find the distance from tower to building.

c)Find the height of building.

Solution:

Height of building   = a m

Height of  tower above building = 40- a m

Horizontal Distance between  tower and building.  = d m

man sees the bottom at a depression of 50°

Angle of Depression = angle of elevation

Tan50°  = Height of Tower / Horizontal Distance between  tower and building.

=> 1.1918  = 40 / d

=> d = 33.5627  m

Horizontal Distance between  tower and building.  =  33.5627  m

Tan35°  = Height of  tower above building  / Horizontal Distance between  tower and building.

=> 0.7002 = (40 - a) /  33.5627

=> 23.5 = 40-a

=> a = 16.5 m

height of building. = 16.5 m
