let the cost price of 12 articles be 'x '

.
selling price of 12 articles = ₹80

.
Find the gain:
-------------------

gain = 33 1/ 3 % = 100/ 3 %

.
gain = 100 / 3 % of x

.
= 100x / 3 × 100 = ₹ x / 3

.
cost price + gain = selling price

.
x + ( x / 3 ) = 80

.
3x + x = 240

.
4x = 240 => x = ₹60

.
cost price of 12 articles = ₹60

.
Find the cost of 1 article:
---------------------------------

cost price of 1 article = 60/ 12= ₹ 5

.
Required articles:
-------------------------

number of articles bought by the man for ₹90

= 90 / 5 = 18 articles

.
Answer: required articles = 18
