Given :- A man sells two cats at the same price. On one he gains a profit of 25% and on the other he suffered a loss of 25%.

To Find :-

  • Determine the overall loss or gain percent in the whole transaction. ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, SP of both cat is Rs.100x .

So,

→ SP of first cat = Rs.100x

→ Profit = 25%

→ CP = (SP * 100) / (100 + Profit%)

→ CP = (100x * 100) / (100 + 25)

→ CP = (100x * 100)/125

→ CP = Rs.80x

Similarly,

→ SP of second cat = Rs.100x

→ Loss = 25%

→ CP = (SP * 100) / (100 - Loss%)

→ CP = (100x * 100) / (100 - 25)

→ CP = (100x * 100)/75

→ CP = Rs.133.33

Therefore,

Total CP of both cat = 80x + 133.33 = Rs.213.33

→ Total SP of both cat = 100x + 100x = Rs.200x .

Hence,

Overall Loss = Total CP - Total SP

→ Overall Loss = 213.33 - 200x = Rs.13.33

→ Loss % = (Loss in Rs. * 100) / CP

→ Loss % = (13.33 * 100) / 213.33

→ Loss % = 6.25 % . (Ans.)

So, the overall loss percent in the whole transaction is 6.25% .
