A man sells two chairs at rs 120 each and by doing so he gains 25% on one side and losses 25% on the other. Overall he incurs a loss of Rs 16.

Selling Price of 1 chair = Rs 120

So, SP of 2 chairs = Rs (120 × 2) =Rs 240

For 1 chair, there is a 25% profit on it,

So, its CP must be lesser than its SP

= (100/100+25)of Rs 120

= (100/125) of Rs 120

= (100/125) × Rs 120

= Rs 96

For another chair, there is 25% loss on it,

So, its CP must be more than SP

= (100/100-25) of Rs 120

= (100/75) of Rs 120

= (100/75) × Rs 120

= Rs 160

So, total CP of 2 chairs = Rs (160+96) =Rs 256

And their SP = Rs 240.

Since, SP<CP, the man incurs a loss.

Loss value = CP-SP = Rs (256-240) = Rs 16

Thus, the man suffers a loss of Rs 16.
