Tipu Sultan was the ruler of Mysore and fought four wars with the British.

The swords of Tipu Sultan were famous for the steel used to manufacture them. It was known as Wootz, which was a special type of high carbon steel. It was produced all over south India.

Francis Buchanan has left valuable account of the technique by which Wootz steel was produced. In the smelting furnaces iron was mixed with charcoal and put inside small clay pots. The smelters produced steel ingots that were used for sword making.

Wootz is an English word for the Kannada word ukku, Telugu word hukku and Tamil word urukku all meaning steel.

European scientists Michael Faraday spent four years studying the properties of Indian Wootz.

The Wootz steel making and the swords and armour making industry died after the conquest of India by the British.

Abandoned furnaces in villages

Iron and steel were imported from England, which replaced the Indian production. Iron smelters had existed in the districts of Bihar and Central India till the 19th century, which used local deposits of ore. Communities like the Agarias were known for their craft of iron smelting.

By the late 19th century, the craft of iron smelting declined due to the new forest laws formed by the British Government and import of iron and steel from Britain.

Iron and steel factories come up in India

The Tata Iron and Steel Company TISCO was set up at Jamshedpur on the banks of the river Subarnarekha. It began producing steel in 1912 and later became the biggest steel industry within the British Empire.

Answer:

┌──❀˚──◌──◌──❀˚─┐

αnѕwєr

└◌───❀˚───◌───❀˚┘

Step-by-step explanation:

SP of lst watch = ₹1,955

Gain = 15 %

CP = SP×100/100+Gain %

= 1,955×100/100+15

= 1,955×100/115

= ₹1,700

SP of 2nd watch = ₹1,955

Loss = 15 %

CP = SP×100/100-Loss %

= 1,955×100/100-15

= 1,955×100/85

= ₹2,300

Total CP of both watches = ₹(1,700+2,300)

= ₹4,000

Total SP of both watches = ₹(1,955×2)

= ₹3,910

Loss = CP - SP

= ₹(4,000-3,910)

= ₹90

Loss % = Loss/CP × 100

= 90/4,000×100

= 2.25 %.
