A man sold an article at a loss of 20%. If he had sold that article for 12 more he would have gained 10%. Find the cost price

TO FIND :-

  • Cost price of the article.

SOLUTION :-

Let the cost of article be 'x'.

Man solds as 20% loss.

Selling price = x - [20% of x]

Also ,

If he had sold the article for 12 more , he would have gained 10%.

→ x - [20% of x] + 12 = x + [10% of x]

→ x - (20x/100) + 12 = x + (10x/100)

→ x - (x/5) + 12 = x + (x/10)

→ x - (x/5) - x - (x/10) = -12

→ -(x/5) - (x/10) = -12

→ -3x/10 = -12

→ -3x = -120

→ x = 40 Rs

Hence , cost of article is 40Rs.
