Given that:

  • A man sold two articles at Rs 375 each.

To Find:

  • How much he gain or lose in the whole transaction?
  • Also find the gain or loss percent in the whole transaction.

Abbreviations used:

  • CP₁ = Cost price of first article
  • CP₂ = Cost price of other article
  • CP = Total cost price
  • SP' = Selling price of each article
  • SP = Total selling price

On the first article,

Finding the cost price at 25% gain:

CP₁ = (SP' × 100)/(100 + gain)

↣ CP₁ = (375 × 100)/(100 + 25)

↣ CP₁ = 37500/125

↣ CP₁ = 300

On the other article,

Finding the cost price at 25% loss:

CP₂ = (SP' × 100)/(100 - loss)

↣ CP₂ = (375 × 100)/(100 - 25)

↣ CP₂ = 37500/75

↣ CP₂ = 500

Finding the total selling price:

SP = SP' + SP'

↠ SP = 375 + 375

↠ SP = 750

Finding the total cost price:

CP = CP₁ + CP₂

↠ CP = 300 + 500

↠ CP = 800

We know that:

  • When selling price is less than cost price then there is loss.

Finding the loss:

Loss = CP - SP

↠ Loss = 800 - 750

↠ Loss = 50

Therefore,

  • He losses Rs. 50 in the whole transaction.

Finding the loss percentage:

Loss % = (Loss × 100)/CP%

↠ Loss % = (50 × 100)/800%

↠ Loss % = 5000/800%

↠ Loss % = 6.25%

Hence,

  • The loss percent in the whole transaction is 6.25%.
