A man spends 15% of his monthly income on clothes and 40% of the rest on food. He there by save 153. Find his monthly income.

Let his monthly income be X

rs. spending in cloths = 15X/100 = 3X/20

remaining = X - 3X/20 = (20X - 3X)/20 = 17X/20

rs. spending on foods = 40/100 × 17X/20

= 17X/50

remaining = 17X/20 - 17X /50

= (85X - 34X)/100

= 51X/100

So,

51X/100 = 153

X = 153 × 100 /51

X = 300
