3/10 because if add the value 3/10 and 2/5 we get 7/10 so we have subtract it from total means 1 the we will get 3/10

Hi,

Thanks for asking the question.

Here is your required answer : -

Fraction of salary the man spends on food =  \frac{2}{5}

Fraction of salary the man spends on house rent =  \frac{3}{10}

Since,
The salary of man is not stated or given,

We will assume the salary of the man as 1.

Now,

Let's calculate the net fraction of money used by the man on his food and house rent,

Total fraction money used by the man on his food and house rent =  \frac{2}{5}  \frac{3}{10}

(Now for simplifying, calculate the L.C.M. of denominators i.e. 5 & 10
The L.C.M. will be 10)

 \frac{(2*2)+(3*1)}{10}

 \frac{4+3}{10}

 \frac{7}{10}

Now,
The fraction of salary left with the man willbe calculated as,
1 -  \frac{7}{10}
 \frac{1}{1}  \frac{7}{10}
(The L.C.M. of the denominators i.e. 10)

 \frac{(1*10)-(7*1)}{10}

 \frac{10-7}{10}

 \frac{3}{10}
